It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to John Hurt, the beloved British actor who played Ollivander in the Harry Potter films. Although his long and successful career included Oscar nominations for “Midnight Express” and “The Elephant Man” – as well as notable performances in many other films – it is his role as a wand merchant that Potter fans have chosen to honor him with. The #WandsUp hashtag has been used on Twitter to pay tribute to Hurt and his character, with fans sharing touching messages and photos of themselves holding up their wands in his memory. Rest in peace, John Hurt. Your wand will always have a special place in our hearts.
