It is a sad news that the world lost two beloved actresses within 48 hours last December: Carrie Fisher, 60, and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, 84. A joint memorial service was held on Saturday at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles to remember them. There were tap dancers, live music, and many powerful memories that these two influential women shared. It is not surprising that as many public figures paid their respects as the mother-daughter duo had in their lives. Todd Fisher, Debbies son and Carries brother, was seen with the “Star Wars” robot R2-D2 at the event. Todd Fisher said, “Weve said goodbye in so many different ways already. But…you cant say goodbye until youve said it to everybody.” It is difficult to imagine the struggle of losing a mother and a sister, but Todd seems to have found peace in this abnormal situation. The program included tap dancing to Reynolds famous “Rain in dance,” a live performance of “True Colors” by the Los Angeles Gay Mens Chorus, and screenings of home videos and movie clips starring the two women. Dan Aykroyd, who had worked with Carrie Fisher and co-starred with her in “The Blues Brothers,” also spoke at the service. Other notable attendees included actress Catherine Hickland (Todds wife), actor Griffin Dunne, and actress Connie Stevens, who had been married to Eddie Fisher, Carrie and Todds father. Todd said, “Weve already said goodbye in so many ways. But this is the goodbye that were sharing with friends and family and the public, because theyre connected to us, and its the way Debbie wanted it, and until youve said it to everybody, you havent said it.” He added, “There are no unsaid words between us. We have a very strong love, so theres no goodbye.” Let us remember the sweet mother-daughter bond of Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.
